ニューアルバム『Foreign Tongues』発売を記念してストーンズの数々のライヴ作品の中から私的ベストテイクを選りすぐって構成。第一部はバラード攻め。ブルージーな落涙の連続。後半第二部は本領発揮のロックンロール中心。ライヴ定番曲もオンエアするヴァージョンにこだわり最高のテイクが揃いました。架空のベストライヴともいえる約2時間をお楽しみください。

今月はThe Rolling Stones祭り、7/10にニューアルバム『フォーリン・タングス 』を発表したThe Rolling Stonesを特集。と言っても『フォーリン・タングス 』は冒頭2曲のみで（各自で聴かれていると思いますので）ストーンズの数々のライヴ音源からベストテイクを選りすぐりまして2時間たっぷりお届けしました。ちょくちょくリリースされているストーンズの過去ライヴ音源ですが、なかなか追い切れない方も多いかと思います。今回の特集が復習もしくは探究の助けになればと思います。
前半第一部は全曲バラードでまとめてみました。なんとなく時系列にしつつ、グラデーションとして[スライド・ギター入りのブルース→ミック・テイラーのソロパート名演→ビリー・プレストン大活躍→ニューソウル系バラード→キース・リチャーズのヴォーカルフィーチャー曲]というそれなりに必然性のある流れでまとまりました。サウンドの変遷も興味深いのですが、改めてミック・ジャガーのヴォーカルの魅力も再発見できると思います。メロディを歌い上げる普通の歌ウマではないのですが、特に70年代のやさぐれ加減は、ならず者のロマンチズムを感じさせなんともいえない色気があります。
そして、後半は、バラード以外、王道のロックンロール中心でまとめました。第二部冒頭の「Midnight Rambler」は当初全編ノーカットで構成しようとしましたが、12～15分かかるので泣く泣く後半の「♪boston」のパートからとしました。あしからず。「Brown Sugar」までがメインステージ、「All Down The Line」以降Ｂステージ的イメージでまとめました。最後3曲は『フォーリン・タングス』の構成オマージュで締めはチャック・ベリーに回帰する形にしました。ストーンズのライヴで2時間の特集は、ラジオ番組としてはかなりスぺシャルなのですが、選びだすと尺が足りなくなるだけでなく、複数のライヴ盤に収録からて「どのヴァージョンを選ぶのか？」が楽しくも悩ましい作業となりました。在籍メンバー、サポートプレイヤーによっても変化するだけでなく、ツアー毎でアレンジが変わったり、それ以上に日によって出来不出来があるのもストーンズならではｗ。さらに録音状態やライヴ盤としてミックスでかなり印象が変わります。それらを総合して選択して、ストーンズの特筆すべきパフォーマンスを揃えることができたと思います。意外ににも[90年代後半～2000年代前半]録音ヴァージョンが当選することが多く、これは60～70年代に比べ録音のクオリティが優位ということもありますが、ストーンズのライヴパフォーマンスとして充実期であったことも今回再発見できました。ここまで来るとこれからのストーンズ、『フォーリン・タングス』をひっさげてのライヴとその音盤化にも期待したいところです。最後に余談ですがスタジオヴァージョンを収録したオリジナルアルバム別に集計すると『BLACK & BLUE』がトップで5曲でした（『LET IT BLEED』も5曲ですが完奏していない2曲を含んでます）。
